Does Your Volkswagen Need New Tires?

November 25th, 2019 by

When it comes to routine Volkswagen maintenance, one of the most important things you can do is ensure that your car has good, robust tires. Your tires provide the point of contact between the vehicle and the road, and as such, they have major implications for safety and performance. Braking, traction, and cornering are all heavily impacted by the tires on your car, and sooner or later, even the best tires will need to be replaced.

The question is: How do you know when your VW needs to have new tires installed? Here are a few warning signs to keep an eye on.

When It’s Time for Tire Replacement

Your car shakes and shudders

It’s no big deal if your car quivers a little bit when you drive over rough or uneven terrain. If you notice a near-constant shaking, however, that usually means your tire tread is too thin, and the tires need to be replaced.

You’re driving on a spare

We highly recommend having a spare tire handy, allowing you to get back on the road quickly following any flats. Please understand that spare tires are meant as temporary fixes, and you shouldn’t plan to drive on a spare for long. If you’re currently driving on a spare, schedule an appointment for new tires as soon as you can.

Your tire tread is uneven

Something else we recommend is having your tires rotated on a regular basis. Many vehicle owners do this when they have their oil changed. Rotating the tires keeps tread levels even, but if you notice tread that’s clearly uneven, that’s a sign that you need to have new tires put on.

Your tires are bald

When we refer to bald tires, we’re referencing tires in which all the tread has been worn away. Such tires are not at all safe, and we would urge you to replace them well before they get to the point of baldness.
